1969 Z28 alternator

New user looking for a tough one... 1969 Z28 alternator (part number ending in 837 (37 amp)) with a date code for an engine with an assembly date of Nov 20, 1968.  Does anyone know of someone that has restamped alternators for sale or, get ready to laugh, an original?

Welcome to the forums.  Sounds like you are doing a pretty indepth resto.  Post some pics when you get a chance.  Try www.rickcamaro.com I ordered a windshield for my 69 and they asked if I needed an oem for year matching for like 800$ or new for like 250.  If they had an OEM windshield they should have an alt.

I'll try Rick's.  If anyone knows of anyone else please post it.  I also can't find an accurate reproduction of the vacuum advance pod.  Have the original, does anyone replate originals?

You could also try www.classicindustries.com  they have more reproduced stuff though.  Ebay or www.craigslist.com would be another place.  beware of scams on those two though.  If you give this enough time someone on here will come along with some better ideas.  Do you have any pictures of your project?  What are your plans?

I have some pics and will try to post them.  My plans are a restoration to look as it did from the factory.  I'm a 'vette guy and judge for both the NCRS and Bloomington so the "originality" bug has bit me.  One of my favorite cars of all time is the '69 z/28.  It is now dark red but the trim tag has silver paint code.  Found evidence of silver during disassebly.  Not too many options.  I've done some reading so let me know if you notice anything wrong with what I describe...  It is a fairly low optioned z/28.  Silver with black stripes, black vinyl interior, console gauges, 3.73 gears (coded on rearend, found 4.88's inside, took those out), no vinyl roof, 4-speed (of course), no RS, North Carolina car that was last registered in 1986, shows 94,000 miles.  I'm about to send it for bodywork and paint, some old dent repairs need fixing, very little rust thankfully.  I think I did VERY well.  Bought the car a year ago for $2400!!!  I'm doing all the work, except for the paint, myself.  I finished the engine, rearend, and transmission rebuilds.  Now I'm working on small stuff (starter, original distributor, brackets, fasteners, etc.  Bringing engine to dyno.  I've rebuilt several chevy V8's before but never dyno-ed.  Heard it is fun, giving it a try.  With a few exceptions, the engine is rebuilt the same way GM did it, so we'll see if the 290 HP rating is accurate. 
 
P.S.  I have the original windshield for this car, but it's delaminating at the edges about 1/2 inch or so.  Can see a little of it when installed.  Do you think I should put it back in or just store it?

Sorry this has taken so long to get back to you.  Ricks might have an NOS windshield, I bought one for my 69 and it was extra for one with the stamping.  Have you decoded the trim tag? do you have the protect-o-plate?  For 2400 bucks its a darned good deal, especially if it runs.  I have a couple of publications that give full details of the original conditions and options of these cars (first gen) so when it comes time to do the grease marks give me a holler and I will help you out.  Also I have a few alternators I just got , I will se if one is original and let you know.  Are you going with the original factory color?

I appreciate the offer.  I need part number 1100837 and a date closer (and prior to) November 20, 1968.  Yes, I'll be going back to the original color.  The car did not run when I got it.  It's all apart now.  At least the original "DZ" engine was there.  Thanks for the marking materials offer, that will be a while.  I stay in touch with the forum.  Thanks...

No protect-o-plate.  Trim tag, as best as I can tell from reading, is Silver paint, plain black interior, X77.

X-77 = sweet.  I thought about cloning mine, which is just plain.  Nobody would know kind of thing, but I would know.  SO I am just going to custon-resto it.

It would be easy to resto mine if I had most of the original parts.  Nothing under the hood is oem, the tranny and hump have been chopped up and the wiring is all sortsa fubar'd.  So its just easier to do a custom-resto for me.
