Lost a shot at a fully restored '69 SS for  this weekend and have now run across a '68 SS Clone that has is missing the motor and tranny, et al but has been fully restored on the outside and, although the interior is not restored, is in good shape.  I don't want my excitement to get me overworked and would just like some ballpark opinions on a good price. I don't need the car to be perfect or 100% accurate. I like the pics and it seems as though I can just drop the guts in and go. Says he added gas shocks so the rear doesn't sit so high.

Help me keep from busting my chain!

So $5000 would be a steal?

I would jump on it.  I have a 69 z28 that will sell easy at 40k.  Sorry I was thinking with the motor and trans in it.  Its what u wanna pay for it.  Some may pay 10k.  Hell I'll sell my 67 for 10k. I have that alone in the suspenion.  its really on u.  So people low ball people and others ask entirely way too much.

Hell ya 5K    Then motor and trans of your choice.   383 425hp small block  crate motor  Or big block if the suspension is set up for it.

5k is a steal - as long as it's all steel if you know what i mean, also let the air out of those air shocks and make sure they're not there to hide something.

Can you get more pictures.  The cowl tag is a good place to start.  You can find out alot if info from there and decide the relative value based off of future plans.

Thanks to Barrett Jackson auctions on Speed, we now can all expect to pay more for these cars. I'd say 5K for that car is a good price. But, you need to see it in person to make a final judgement. Is the body full of bondo? Take a refrigerator magnet with you. Rust at the bottom of the doors and front fenders or rear quarter panels? Quality of paint, does it need to be redone? I guess it dends are what your plans are once you get it. How much are you willing to spend to upgrade?
I can make a picture look really good so, NEVER believe in photos!

If you don't have major metal damage and the paint is good then it sounds like a good deal. Since it's a clone, I would think that metal decay would be at a minimum. Good luck.
