68 SS Hood Louver Gasket

Hood louvers for a 68 SS.  I have the gasket seals(one long strip).  What I am not sure about, does the seal go inside the indentation or along the top of the rim?  Sorry, don't have any pics.  I am trying to get the louvers as flush with the hood as possible.  Of course, I am finding out just how poorly these after market parts fit.  Thanks for any and all help.

The seal goes between the screen and the louver. I too had a problem with flushness. I bought a reproduction hood and reproduction louvers. They didn't have the same crown (curve). So I put the louver topside down between 2, 2x4's and pressed down on the center with my foot (carefully) until the louver had a mild bend and fit the hood curvature. Unfortunately, I also had to file the holes in the hood to get the louver pins aligned. It was a hassle, but it worked and doesn't look too bad.
