Hi, I have a '69 327 with a 3-speed manual.  It starts fine but now when I turn the key off, the ignition won't shut off.  Is this caused by the rod being out of adjustment that leads to the switch?   Looking for answers on how to go about fixing it.  Thanks!

How did you finnaly get it to shut off.  Its not still running is it?  Could be in the switch.

I did get it to shut off by choking it and then I disconnected the battery cable to turn off the power.  I'd hate to keep feeding it gas at these prices!   I was told at a local auto parts store that the rod to the ingition switch is likely bent out of position to shut it off.  I can find no easy way to reach it.

Does anyone know the procedure on replacing the ignition switch?  I'm guessing you have to drop the steering column to get to it or hire Mini Me to go in there and reach it.

If yours is in the colum,i believe you have to pull the steering wheel and look for a relief button to push...but im not 100% on that.....if you have AAA call and say you lost your keys, even if a friend has AAA they will come out and do it for free(they did my 89 vette, which was a pain)...but my car has the switch on the dash and it would shut off and id have to wiggle it to keep it running,it was easy to replace...

If the ignition is on the dash its easy to fix, just a little hard to get too. Fairly cheap $15. Theres some tips here on the internet to help you out. If your ignition wire (red on mine) is going into the fusebox on the passenger compartment side is one plug-in lower than it's supposed to be it will start but not shut off. Try playing with that a little bit.

Thanks for all the tips and advice, guys.  It all seemed to work fine the last time I used it but I did notice now that on the steering column which looks all original, there's a part of it near the dash that rotates and when I rotate it it will turn just enough for the key to move more smoothly.  In some positions it will cause the key to not go fully into LOCK or ACCESORY.  Not sure why this thing turns but it looks like it might be related to cars that might have had the automatic stick on the column but there are no holes drilled anywhere on it. Now the key works sometimes to shut it off but there still must be something binding in there.  I'll do some more investigating.

Problem solved!!  Sweet67Camaro was right on with the fuse box.  I looked at the fuse box and the stupid stereo filter wire was touching another bare wire to the igition fuse.  They weren't even taped, just bare connections.  I pulled them away from each other and taped them up and she now shuts off like she should.  Thanks again everyone!  This site is the best!   I'll have some more questions coming up soon!
