Hello... I just got my 1978 Z28. 4-speed manual, 3.73 rear. It's basically all original except the paint, motor, intake, and carb. The motor is the 2nd motor, and its a Goodwrench Crate 350. I have the original intake, carb, and air cleaner in a box. On the Crate is 'yer Edelbrock Performer Intake/Carb combo. 600cfm. AC is all there but I will need to replace the main part of it where the belt goes on. Its frozen up.
I put in all new plugs & wires, and all the old plugs looked good...until I pulled the last one of course. The tip was obscured by ash deposits. My understanding is that it could be a valve guide, but it's running smooth for now with the new plug.
And theres a clunk in the transmission on gears 1, 2, and 3. 4th gear doesn't clunk because its 1:1? Right now the plan is: I will take this transmission out, buy a rebuild, and put it back in.
I've had it 1 week and that's what I know so far. Haven't been eating or sleeping enough. I spend all my time on this camaro. My neighbor's LT-1 Corvette is the same year as my Z28.

It really looks nice with a Vette and a Camaro parked side-by-side.

Thanks, glad to be here. Now I'm trying to sell my 92 Toyota Camry (daily runner) to get money for a third gen 5-sp w/TPI. Considering TBI but don't know yet. Also pulling a frozen 305 or 350 out of the rusty '79 GMC truck for rebuild or replace, not sure which yet on that, either. The truck can be the "parts getter/wrecking yard cruiser/parts car tow truck/etc"

I'm not sure what he did. It says "LT-1 350" on the hood. I see your point though, they didn't offer LT-1 that year. I'll ask him later

actually, i did some reading. they had a 350 lt1 since the 70's, but it was not the same lt1 that is in the C4. it was rated 375hp or at least thats what wiki said.....

Everythings good except - When I'm under the car I can grab the driveshaft and wiggle it around - it's loose. There's a lot of play there. And (while driving) when I put it in gear and let out the clutch, I hear a clunk under the front end, down by the transmission. The driveshaft appears to be loose at the area where it goes into the transmission? Anyone know this one? Should I take out the driveshaft and put in back in, maybe with new u-joints, and if that doesn't work then I'll get a transmission rebuild... it seems to only clunk in gears 1,2, and 3... 4th gear is 1:1 ratio and does not clunk
But that loose driveshaft sure seems wrong... anyone familiar with this kind of issue?
