OK I can't figure it out. I have a 79 Z28 w/ PDL. there is power to the switch and when you toggle the switch there is power going to the solenoid (although it is odd the power is going to both sides of the solenoid) but the solenoid doesn't do anything. The solenoid has been tested and it works fine w/ a direct battery hookup. Am I missing something? I've worked on many camaros and this one is baffling me. Any help would be welcome.

A ground?
Sounds like the ground wire is broken. That is why you have power on both sides. The break is normally between the door the door post from years of opening and closing the door.

Ok Ghat sounds logical. I replaced the wiring harness so I know the short is not in there. Can I tap into the ground at the switch? Digging up the harness is a pain in the u know what. Which of the 5 wires is the ground? They all juice to them now.

You are right, if you have replaced the entire harness none of the normal issues apply. You will need a wireing harness diagram. The good news if that most likley it just a non-connected ground under the dash. The reason you have power in all wires is because something else is looking for a ground. The bad news is that in the 70's wire color matching the diagram was more like a option then a requirment, Hopfully your new harness is better then that. There should be a diagram that came with your harness?

Update. There are 2 ground wires at the switch. I tapped into one and got the actauators to click. Will tap into both later to make sure all is working, but the ground wire was the solution to this mystery. ishould have known. thanks for the assistance.
