So my friend wants to race me and he says his car has about 460h.p. it's never been on the dyno or anything so how he knows that i do not know. My car makes 400h.p. when the 4bbl is open but it doesn't open untill about 4500rpm....when all the power is gone. So if i race him i should lose right? But i also have a holley carb spring kit sitting in my garage and i can make my 4bbl open right up whn i give it gas so i think im just going to do that and see what happens. If i do get about 400h.p. and he does actually have 460h.p. i should still beat him right because his car is about as big as my moms lincoln town car. lol

I dont think there is enough info to make a guess, how far you racing, engines, tires, gear ratio traction devices

What does he have in his car that is pushing built big block #'s? And what do you have, have you been to the dyno?

ok sry about the lack of info i was in school and i had tot ype really fast...lol. So we both have 350's and he has some stock gearing with a shift kit and i have a 3spd auto with upgraded stock 3.44 gearing and a shift kit. My car has some motor work done all by my brother and he says it's running about 350-400h.p. because he was beating cars with 360 and up. My friend claims he has 460h.p. with no dyno at all. I literally know nothing about his car besides that it has some 18' chrome rims, 12' subs, and it's pretty much a small boat because it must weigh a lot. Im thinking his 18's are going to slow him down a little and the 80-100lb speakers in the back aren't going to help much either. Were probably going to racing abt 1/4 mi. But knowing him he will keep going and when i let off he will say he beat me. I really would like to win but if he does then that just means i get to mod the hell out of my car and race him again.

Hmmm something doesn’t sound write. 460 hp on a 350 is a good amount and takes some work and a little money. And after spending all this time and money on a engine he couldn’t change a set of gears. So hes still has stock gearing and just a stock trany. I am guessing he has stock suspension as well. If he is running mid 400s then this set up is not good at all.

Well he has an aftemarket sway bar..and thats all as far as suspension goes. he doesn't know anything abouy cars and he tries to sound like he can build one by himself but he didn't even put one part on that car by himself, all he can do is spend daddies money. He got it built at a street car place next to year one and he acts like he's an expert on everything now. I know im not an expert by any means but i know a hell of a lot more about cars than he does.

You would probably be better racing a set distance, if he wants to go past that then let him, losin a race is not bad compared to a car or a life. As far as 460hp.........yeah right. Those are huge #'s out of a small block.  At that power level traction becomes a huge problem as well as other problems like body twist and so on. With both cars having almost all stock parts you will both be lucky to see 300's.  You may be faster due to all the things you said. but there is only one way to tell. Just be smart about it, if it can't be done safe then don't do it.

If at all possible take it to the drag strip no arguments about who started first or who won. When I was in school 20 years ago I wrecked a 64 pontiac messing around on the street went off the road hit a culvert went airborn through a telephone pole lucky I wasnt killed I still really miss that car. The other benefit at the strip is if you talk to the racers they will give you real world advice most are very willing to help a young person out......good luck

Well i live about 45 minutes away from the commerce/atlanta dragway so we could go there. I think my car will win easily because we have raced the same people and they all have said that i've put twice as many lengths on them as he did.

The Monte is probably really fast because its more arodinamic and weighs about the same than your Camullet.  And 460 hp from a smallblock happens all the time.

If you wanna beat him, you have to do a neutrol drop-start.  TH350/400 is fine with that, and is the same as a manual with a clutch.  You do this, and it's all over and you win the prize.  All the money I've won is because of the neutrol drop-start, and as long as you don't have slicks, your gonna be good to go.

Another little-known trick is to remove your air filter to free up hp.    Good luck and let us BowTie homeys know youve done us proud.

HA! a camullet? mullets are business in the front and party in the back and camaros are all business just ask any ford guy they spend enough time looking at the back to know. by the way just tell the guy to take it to the track he sounds like he's full of BS and when it comes time to put up or shutup his true colors will come out.....just make sure you're safe about racing!!!

So I finally got a chance to race him yesterday from a dead stop. I got him off the line and put about 2 cars on him then i shifted to second and let off to let him catch up and i walked him all the way down our little strip with everyone watching. And i also ran againt an s2000 that my buddy beat in his ls1 camaro. I got the s2000 off the line pretty good and he just never caught up because i never let off. So thoses were 2 good kills i think.
