what can you all tell me about code 46?
1990 3.1L
was having trouble getting the thing to run.
now it will not start at all but will turn, no CEL on but jumped A and B and got code 46.
so what is the code and what should L do to fix it?

DTC 46.
PCM not seeing proper signal from VATS module. Engine will crank, but won't start.
Check for open or short to ground on wiring from VATS module to ECM. Dark Blue wire? IF OK, then ECM or VATS module may be bad.
The VATS module is seeing the proper key resisor pellet, otherwise it wouldn't allow the starter to crank the engine. However; the ECM is not seeing the signal from the VATS, so it is not firing the injectors.

where is the pcm and vats located in the car? and if its not a short can you get new pcms and or new vats controlers?

The ECM should under the right side of dash. I am not sure where the VATS module lives in your car, probably under the dash also. madmikez28 is more knowledgeable than I on 3rd gen cars, and he will let us know if he reads this thread, or you may shoot him a PM.
