cold engine knock

ok so today i went to go look at this 97 camaro and when i started it up the engine started to knock but then after 1 to 2 minutes it went away do u think this is a easy fix or what

is it a knock or a tick, my camaro has a tick that could easily be mistaken as a knock but its an exhaust leak.

I would certainly never buy any car that had a knock, no matter how slight it may seem. There are way too many 97's out there with very good motors, I'd keep looking.

Bearing knocks do not go away as the engine warms up. What you are probably hearing is either valve train noise because of a sticking lifter, or piston slap. These are not really bad problems, but you should let a knowledgeable mechanic check the engine out before spending money, as it could very well be some other more serious problem. As was said many times before, it is very difficult to diagnose problems from someones noise description. As was said above, look for one that has no problems to start with.

I think pete has the right idea. unless the car is dirt cheap dont waste your money.

for real. Save your cash for a car with under 100,000 miles and i guarantee you will find they are in better condition for the most part.
