Conversion Question....

I have an 81 Camaro...The gauge cluster only goes up to 85 mph. and I cant stand it. I hate not having a tach in my car and putting one in on the steerin isnt an option. I went to a swap meet near my town and a guy had a full cluster out of a 78 with the speedo up to 130mph and a tach where my big gas gauge is. I know you can inter-change 78 throught 81 parts. Im jus unsure if it would work...he only wants $40 for it. I checked it over and its a pretty good deal. Im jus unsure.
can anyone help me out?

it will work just fine...buy it..may have to run a few wires for the tach.

well one thing is, the dash on a 78 is "curved" where as the 79,80,81 had the rectangle. if your changing the entire dash it will be fine. but i dont belive the cluster will work that easily. you may have to fanagle it a bit

heh took the cluster out of a 79 z28 and am about to put it in my 81 rs.  Probably work on it tomorrow will let ya know how it goes.  Heh hate the 85 speedo too:p

I have '81 gauges in my '74.
My dad put them in back when it was his.
Of course, he cheated and put the whole dash in.

I have wires to my guages..and lights from a few mid 80,s camaro's and firebirds.
