There are plenty of 3rd gen. Camaro's in the $3-4,000 range.  However, you won't find a decent convertible for that price.  My 5.0 liter 305 HO w/5sp gets 25-27 mpg consistently.  It's cool, it's a Chevy, decent mileage and you'll have the option to sell, fix up or part the vehicle out when your other car comes home.

id buy a little 4cyl s10 pickup thats in decent shape. maybe if you could find a s10 extreme but i dont know if they only come in 4.3L

That's what I'm shopping for, bud.  But have you driven the 4 cylinder ones?  If you haven't, I think you'd be disappointed.  I've driven the V6 and the 4cyl.  The 4cyl will barely freakin move.  The V6 doesn't feel powerful either - but it feels NORMAL.  For a truck, and for a vehicle the size of an S10, you really need the 4.3L v6 imo.

I kinda think that xtremes do come with a 4cyl...  seems like I've seen that before.

They don't get great gas mileage either.  I think the V6 is about the same as my camaro (18-25) and the 4cyl isn't a whole lot better (maybe worse...)

My 98 4x4 S10 Blazer with the 4.3L consistently got 13-14mpg in town. The best I recorded was 18mpg, and that was just a couple  of days after I got it (Sept. '06) when I went on a roughly 160mi round trip mostly highway going 55-70mph with the AC on. More recently (August '07) I went on a longer trip all highway cruising around 80mph with the AC off (it didn't work at the time, I almost passed out from heat exhaustion after driving non stop for 2 1/2hrs, it was 100+ outside) and I got 16mpg. The 4.3L is a good reliable engine though, and it's not exactly a powerhouse, but it'll get the job done. It was about the only thing on my Blazer that I didn't have any problems with, haha.

I've heard good and bad things about 2nd gen S10s and Blazers. I've heard of some that go 200k miles with no major problems, but then there are ones like mine where in a year you'll double the price of it in repairs. I guess there are just some lemons out there, and I happened to get one of them.

I learned how to drive stick in one with a little 2.2L/5spd combo, I love that little truck.

I had an 86 2.8.....still got crappy mileage(17-18) without the v8 power. My 84 z28 gets about 14 mpg with the q-jet dripping gas out the side. Once i get that fixed it should be ok but i still want a little high reving car for the summer and when my camaro starts getting modded!! the first thing i want to do is get an lt1 6 speed and whatever i can do to the rear to make it stronger. This car is eventually gona be a 383/vortec/FI or a blown high revving 350 with aluminum heads. Depends on what the rear axle and trans can take. I have a block to start with so im gona take that off to the machine shop soon

How 'high revving' are you planning on taking the 350?  or did I miss-read your post.

6200 or so. Im taking my block to get machined for .030 over pistons and align bored for new bearrings when i get paid in 2 weeks. I want to get the trick flow 420hp top end kit, a vic jr intake, and i still havent decided on a carb yet. I still have to track down a good crank and rods, i have 9.5:1 forged aluminum pistons already, and then just work on putting it all together. All im waiting for is cash now! hopefully ill have the motor assembled by may, when i finish school, so ill be happy with that and have spare time to put it in. Its gona stay NA for now just cause i want to take a break after shelling out all this cash for a motor and trans! and then ill probably end up breaking the axle

I was more or less looking for a convertible/roadster style car...if you look at my little note at the bottom that explains why i dont want a civic. I hate front wheel drives and esp hondas. They cant even make there mid engine looking roadster a mid engine! I have considered the diesel jettas/golfs but people want too much for them. And i want something i can work on easily. And just to clarify...the car has to be cool first, then reliable, then good on gas, not the other way around. If i was only looking for fuel economy i wouldnt have made a thread like this lol

i dont think you get it. The goal of honda civic is to be a fuel efficient car, not a roadster car, dont pay attention to ricer community. There is no need for civics to have bigger engines, they are fine just the way they are built. 40mpg, and 25 bucks to fill it up!

if you wanna keep a nice "sleek" looking car, but not have the power and have the low MPG.. buy a N/a eclipse, eclipse GS.

Get a 89-95 Ford Taurus SHO. Yeah I know it's a Ford, but I had one a few cars back and they are really impressive. Yamaha designed 3.0l v-6 220hp, 5 speed, 20mpg, nice interior, dirt cheap insurance, good reliability, and 4 doors. I had a black 91 with black leather, man I MISS that car. Plus you can find a really nice one for around 3-4 grand.
