I am planning to replace driver side fender due to quick repair from "fender bender" back in the 70's, and now bondo (filler) is cracking along with some rust. What would be the main hang up I should expect? Cutting, welding, shims? Thanks for the time.

Fitment if useing aftermarket panels can sometimes be hard to get body lines/gap's to line up.usually a shim here or there will do the trick.Or if your chip foose place on ground for maximum leverage and tweak this and that and wallah.original gm panel's fit much better, hard to find, hard to stomach the cost

I will be going to an old car swapmeet just south of from here, and I hope I find a GM fender. If not after market is the way to go.

How bad is the damage? Post a pict.
This what I had to replace.
Look at the bondo packed-in.

Hi Jonnynitro. I have'nt got it down to metal, but a magnet won't work anywhere below the fender flare. I also see patch work just above the fender skirt. Obvious also is that the top of the fender where the windshield meets, there is about 1/4" gap, telling me that the fender was pulled down upon impact to lower portion of fender. I will post some pics soon. What format and what size do you post your pics? Your pics always turn out clean.

I use a image editing program to size the image to 72 DPI(dots per inch) and a size of about 8" as a JPEG format.

Front fender drivers side, quarters are fortunately fine. This is my winter project, along with a few other items.

Man, replacing a fender is easy...Get yourself some shims and line that stuff up and bolt it down and call it good. Just kidding, Getting your lines err... lined up is gonna make it the difficult art...

Yeh, I am expecting a difficult time, but I gotta give it a try. I won't be satisfied if I did'nt. It's just a fender right? If all else fails, body shop is 15 minutes away.
