Camaro Man 1999

hey guys im new to camaro's but ive always wanted one . i bought this 1999 orange convertable Z28. all i really know about the car is that it has a LS1. it was wrecked and fully rebuilt and only needs to be painted and i bought it for 4500 dollars, it has 72000 miles on it. ive always had manual cars and this one is automatic but it feels like it still has a lot of potiential. i was just wondering if any one could give me some tips on what to do to get the most power out of this car for easy cheap mods just for right know? because you all know that every type of car has there little things you can do that make a big difference.
THANKS

gears and exhaust are pretty cheap and will get you going faster and sounding better

im glad that most autos are faster because im tired of manual cars i just wanted something that i could drop the top in and cruise in, until of course some rustang wants a piece LOL. yea im wanting a set of gears but which would be the best for the most power with out totally destroying my gas milage?

3.73 is the max that you'll want to get for a street car w/ an auto, you could just drop in the whole rear end of a manual F-body and go for 3.42, plus, that way you don't have to worry about whether they're set up right.

on the gears for the rear end i was talking to someone today and they said i should put 410's in it. but i would rather take some ones advice that has had mor experience with camaro's.

if you get 4.10s you can kiss gas mileage goodbye and it wont be as streetable as it would with 3.73s... but it would have some kick ass pick up.

i appreciate the info ill probably go with 4.10's because i stay around town mostly so gas shouldn't be as horrible as if i drive a long distance every day.

With 4.10's don't plan on going over 90 mph.

with 4.10s like alek said you sacrafice top speed for acceleration... But you do know that you get worse gas mileage on short around town trips than on the freeway. I drove over an hour and a half and barely wasted a quarter tank. Its the stop and go of the city that makes gas mileage suck in our cars.

ok i didn't know that those gears would limit my top speed that much so know for sure i know im going with 3.73's thanks for the extra info. By the way how much will 3.73's limit my top speed?

top speed has been reported to get up to 170.. of course they had alot of computer restrictions removed.
As for 3.73 gas mileage 16-17 city 20-22 highway (also reported and thats on a relatively stock car w/ bolt ons and the gears)

They are all right but imo I like 4.10's .... I have them in my camaro and yea gas is a little worse but it was not as bad as i figured it would of been. Also I have a auto and its fine on road trips unlike my mustang that had 4.56's with a c4 3 speed. lol It was strikly 8th lol

Yeah, honestly gas isnt that bad as long as you dont drive like the fast and the furious (speed up to the speed limit or above and then when it comes time to stop brake at the last second). 4.10s are great for acceleration and if you want em get em, but if you ever plan on going up to 170 and gas mileage is important to you get the 3.73s

The 170 was with stock gears though, right? If you've got an automatic you'd be losing around a third of that.

so your saying an automatic will only reach about 125 MPH with 3.73"s because i thought you could still reach 170 with 3.73's

Well the stock gear ratio is 2.73 for the automatic I believe? So divide 4.1 by 2.7 you get approx 1.5. Now divide the top speed (170) by 1.5 and you get 113. That's approximately what your top speed will be with 4.10s. Now I am not sure about the stock gear size, and the maximum speed. I am just using the numbers that came to mind without verifying them. With 3.7's you should get around 125, which seems ok. I personally would go with 3.4's for me just because I don't want to see my engine revving up in high RPMs everytime im on the highway. But since you say you are doing a lot of city driving 3.7's might work well for you.

the top speed report i read was 170 with 3.73s. top speed for a 2.7 w/e stock gear ratio would probably be higher but it would take ALOT of road to get there.

The automatics came with either 2.73(option code GU4) or the "performance" option for the auto was 3.23 (option code GU5). All manuals came with 3.42 (GU6).

ive already purchased 3.73's so ill put these in and see what i think, but from this helpful thread i think these will make me happy. but im sure my basically stock Ls1 will destroy the people that like to talk **** and drive around in there mustangs lol then ill be happy

your acceleration will be better and the LS1 is already a bitchin engine.

thats what i hear about the LS motor but im debating if i would rather it be a manual car.
