thats not something any of us can answer. you know how much the car is worth, you know what your income and expenses are, you should know your credit rating for financing if its through a dealer. same for insurance, its based on your driving record, financial stability, and such

Age, will your bank finance you, credit history, are you making a down payment or trade in, ..........Call an insurance company and get your quote before you do anything.

im 17 with an 02 SS, insurance isnt that bad when you get your parent's discounts and have it as a "laisure vehicle" or something like that

I STRONGLY ADVISED AGAINST THIS. i dont care how good of a driver you are, you will get into an accident with your first car. might be serious, might be minor. but when you combine power and inexperience, it creates big problems. im 17, ive been driving solo the last 5 years (namely around the property, few milk runs, sneaking out at night, etc.) the first month i had my lisence, i had two minor accidents. one was to save an idiots life (woman on a bicycle in the middle of a back country road on a blind turn and hill with headsets), and the other was simply backing into a gaurd rail when i was in a hurry. i would just get some beater to learn how to drive with, and save your dream care for later. my estimates, even with listed under your dads name and as a leisure vehicle (which is what i did), you insurance will be about $800 minimum for 6 months, and car payments a month will start off at least around $300. good luck

Insurance rates suck. That is why I buy vehicles I can pay for with one payment. This allows me to run with basic coverage. Most of the times a little bump and grind is less than the deductable leaving you to pay while they increase the rates. Even when there is a major loss the insurance company tries to rip you off anyway.

I say keep your paid off Camaro and have it painted or stuff a blower under the hood. But if you got money coming out the ying-yang go ahead and splurge on that new monthly payment.

I dont know but I would not be supprised if when you walk into the insurance agency they offer your dad a mint and ask him to kindly bend over and grab his ankles while they remove his wallet.
