Sup fellas, glad to be a new member to this fantastic site! I recently bought a 1986 IROC Z28, 305 "F" engine code that had a few issues. I've worked out most of them and am buttoning up the final steps in making this classic roadworthy. Before you read my post, I did do a search on this topic, but didn't really turn up anything that helped me out too much, which is why I'm posting this.
Needless to say, I replaced the fuel pump with an SPI (spectra) fuel pump and sending unit. As most of you may know, this is no easy task and is VERY frustrating. Anyway, the vehicle has an intake leak which was preventing me from driving it around for long periods of time, which meant I could move it around my yard and to my lift and thats about it. About a week ago, the fuel pump died again....and I can't figure out why.
Now, it is NOT the relays, I bought new relays from GM and it did not solve the problem, which leads me to believe the pump crapped out again...but why? A bad ground possibly? Faulty parts? Incorrect installation

?
This brings me to my next question: is it possible to mount an external fuel pump with a fuel cell (I know, this is a very extreme measure) to run the vehicle, or is that not possible? I have been told this can't be done, but I'm just throwing any ideas out there at this point. I'm basically trying to save myself future headaches incase this fuel pump problem occurs again.
What do you all think? Any/all input is greatly appreciated, and I thank you for your help in this matter!
Cheers!
Just read Gordon24Camaro's post in the 3rd gen section about fuel pump relays, and Arizona Camaro gave me some good info, but if there is
anything at all that you can think of....I really don't want to change this thing a 2nd time or at least prevent
having to change this thing for a 3rd time in the future
