I have just accquired a nice 1972 Camaro.  However, the carpet is worn completely out,..so I purchased a new carper kit.  My problem is,.. can't figure out how to remove the gear shift leaver so I can remove the console, allowing me to install the new carpet.  This is an automatic with the correct double handled shift leaver. How do I remove this shifter??

Thanks in advance,
Danny

The only thing you should have to remove is the shifter botton and the plate that surrounds the shifter and a couple of screws and the councle should just come out

So you're saying that all I have to do is remove the plate screws and the entire shifter will come out?  That sounds too easy.

yeah take the consol out . and disconnect the shifter cabel and the 4 bolts and shes outta there.very easy. but if you want just the nob off you. u take a think screw driver and pop the button off and than with a plair of plyers u sqeeze the clip and it comes off. good luck with it man

There is two or three screws under the center councle glove box open the lid and there is a couple of screws holding the box in remove the screws and you should see the screws at the bottom and also there is a screw in front of the councle under the dash there a should be some kinda bracket there with a screw remove that and the councle shoud come right out
