Bro, there is alot to do to clone it.  I recomend buying a book about the history and/or the identification of 1st gen Camaro's.  If you would rather use us a your resource you will be here a long time.  Its more than what is simply in the white book.  Obviously the 302 would be the first thing.  Then the suspention stuff.  If its all exterior then you will have an easier time but, to truly make it as numbers matching as possible will take time.

Well, there are about 30,000 or so people out there that probably can help you.  Here's about how it goes:

Forget the motor, because that's expensive.  All you need is a glovebox decal for the correct tire inflation information, a couple of bucks for some emblems, a 4-speed conversion, and some four-piston front brakes and the correct rotors.  Everything else that is then missing you can make up a B.S. story about as to where it went over the years...  Just say you bought it from a friend's uncle, and the engine, radiator, transmission, and rear end were all blown up street racing.

Embellishing this street racing legend helps as well; make up a story about "yeah, this z/28 used to run like a big block, yada-yada..."  You'll be good to go!

Bad idea my arse...

Every Camullet out there at this point is suspect.  Let's face it--  How many base motor, non-SS, RS, or Z/28 cars do you see when you go anywhere?   Based on this, the guy is doing himself a disservice by NOT cloning the Z, especially if he has a '68.

Which is why I made mine as plain jane as I could. Everywhere I went in the area it was as you said, SS,RS, Z/28's but never just a regular looking Camaro.

Excellent point Willie!
There are two ways to clone, if you are set on doing it. One is to badge the car and make a Camaro that looks like the original (tribute car). Or, actually duplicate the original with every part and then try to pass it off as original. The first shows taste. The second is downright criminal. If you want a Z car, buy one, if you want a plain Camaro buy that.

Its not a cool thing to try to fool people, but badging a car is not bad, its all what the owner wants. I am friends with a guy near my house that has a real z that looks like my rs with z badges. I do not try to say mine is a z, but the badges look cool and so do the stripes. so lkong as i do not lie about it, no harm no foul. either way it is a nice car, and wanting a z is not a bad thing, but they are expensive, and so is cloning a car, so in the end its preference

I am not wanting to know this so i can scam someone, its just that i dont want a plain jane camaro i like the look of the extra emblems and badges, but i also dont want EVERYONE to know that its a clone, know watta mean? I like the Z-28 emblems but dont want a 302 and i also dont want a 4-speed. Did any Z-28's come with the autos? What about an SS 350? Maybe that would be easier to "clone"??

BTW i am gonna Dyno the motor here pretty soon. I was hoping for a little more in the HP but i think i might be lucky to get 350HP out of it. (without NOS that is)

Z/28 option was not available in '67-'69 with auto trans, air conditioner, or convertible.

68's are easy to clone, tribute car or what ever. "It's your car do what you want to it", doesn't have any special i.d. on it other than 6 or 8 cylinder or interior option . If you don't have  documents, build sheet or original owners manual with warranty plate, than it's considered a clone.  Who in there right mind would drive real z28 , copo or rs/ss on the street daily, maybe if i was rich and had money to replace it i would .But there is always some NUT  drafting you when you are driving down the road ,then he slams into your rear and say's " i didn't see your third brake light "  sorry just venting  good luck with it .  how about some pics?

Ultimately it comes down to what you want.  The badges are the easiest way, you can look up the camaro research group for some specifics on locations and suck, I have a book at home if you are interested I can post up some info later if you cant find anything on the net.
