ok, my friend is looking into a chevy nova with a 396 big block. the motor is basically tuned, intake and exhaust. My friend sais he would beat me in a race. but i tell him hes junk lol. ok so im not sure if i would win or not. would i be able to beat a mildly tuned 396 bb with a 383 stroker, bored 30 over, aftermarket cam, not sure what specs,. 750 carb, manifold, intake, 3 inch exhaust, stock auto tranny.
If i cant win with those current upgrades, could i win if i bought tri-y headers, dual 3inch with bullet mufflers, and a 5 speed tranny? im not worry'd about him right now because i would easilly beat his 88 camaro, but this nova is scaring me. Do i have competition?

i dunno, its hard to say... you might have the upper hand since he is running a BBC. All BBC have low end power, but the 383 Stroker is a friggen Torque Monster. u might have him on this one... It all depends on the gearing of the BBC also.

all i can say from my past with BBC that the lugg on off line torque. but they make up for it at the end. if you can get him off the line, you might have him.

It is going to be a fair race, all depends on how well tuned they are. The 383 may have the weight advantage and better bite off the line. I like big blocks if they are really big (over 500 in), otherwise I think the small block can make as much power and be lighter.
