After installing it, there is an obvious loss in power. It idles perfectly now and no engine lag when i turn the steering wheel at idle. Different jets, metering rods? What gives? thanks

They're probably building it on the "economy" side of things. If it runs good... why worry?

thanks for the reply. thats what i figured, spend less and make more. this forum is great. theres a ton of q's that i will inqiring about later. i found an original 69ss for sale last year in great shape from the original owner, and i'm now starting the resto.

make sure that the throttle cable is set properly so that the throttle valves open fully when the pedal is floored. Also check that the flaps on top of the secondaries are not sticking and open fully.

what kind of carb did it have before

It sounds like the metering rods might have been changed to run leaner. I doubt that they would have touched the jets. Rochesters run on the idle circuit until part throttle in the primarys, then the main jets kick in. Its also a good idea to check the float level.

thanks for the info. will check on it later when i can sneak into my garage without the wifey noticing. she says i spend more time with my car than with her. i'll make it up though. the car came with a q-jet, and i did not want to change the original look too much. it apears to be a mettering issue also. the rebuilt carb is much cleaner. maybe ill just rebuild it. thanks again.
