What can I do to the exhaust of a Z28 prolly a LT1 to make it nice and LOUD and I mean LOUD.. Stand out in a crowd loud... like able to make a few 2nd gen camaros sound like 4cyls but keep it emissions legal? Mufflers? Headers? Cam?

Put megaphones at the end of the tailpipe.

IMO loud does not always mean it sounds good. You need compression and a big cam too. The SLP Loudmouth is the loudest exhaust that I know of that is a ready to bolt on deal.

Yeah, for great loud sound. What would be the best combination from the headers on back?
Now that im looking around at exhaust... What is the design of a Z28s catback? Is it this?
Is there a chance for going true dual... with two mufflers? Have a pipe fabbed to go from each header (no cross or mid pipe) to a single in single out muffler on eachside? Rather than the catback above?

Like this without the cross pipe:

$th gens don't really have room for true duals. It has been done but it either never fits right or looks hack. A 3 inch y-pipe and 3 inch cat back can support 500+ hp.

I know a guy here in sweden with a 95 Z with Procharger, he had a 3" exhaust up to around 600hp but he had to get a 4" exhaust when he got more power, has around 850hp now in the same engine.
So a singel 3" goes a long way!

hmm...Well, if you don't care how the back of your car looks, get some Long tube headers and stick 2 cats on the collectors, and run duals and dump them before the axel, it'll be loud, er, really really loud. Frankly, I'd go with a good set of emissions legal long tubes(they're hard to find...Kooks worked well for me!) with a catted Y from the same company, and then you could get the SLP Loudmouth system and drop the resonator and weld in a piece of pipe, then you'd have straight pipes back. IMO it'd be way too loud...after starting my car with open headers I'm glad that I have an exhaust system that at least cuts out some of the sound.

but Y pipes suck.. my friggin V6 had Y pipe... What prevents a 4th Gen from having dual exhaust? Doesnt the Y surpress power anyway?

Cut outs my friend

What are cut outs... Im not familiar with the complications Camaros have that my Mustang didnt have.

obviously not lol let me check

Ah yes. But would a X or H or nothign at all allow better flow than a Y? I understand the 3" can withstand alot of power but Ive always known Y pipes to be a negative thing that restricts airflow. I never imagined a Y pipe on a V8 before now.
Basically, theres no way to eliminate the Y and get actual Dual exhaust with dual mufflers?

You can put on true duals, but most of the time they end before the rear axel and just have turn downs, it sounds good but is very loud inside, to the point of being hard to deal with. Of the systems that run out the back that I have seen they either have problems with clearance or are just plain hack looking. Also 2.5'' is as big as you can go. With a Ypipe a 3 inch is a great fit and there are companies that make 4 inch set ups. But really unless you have 5-600 hp the 3 inch will not hold you back, so why bother with a hacked up exhaust that bangs off the frame on every bump?

Eh, I guess your right.. I just dont think the design they have is very efficient... I mean is there anyway I could maybe split the Y, leave the design the same and have em weld in like... Glasspacks or something small but loud?

What exactly are cutouts? What do they do to the car? Do they add sound? Power? Where can I get something like that done and how much would it cost? Is it worth it?

good set of headers, good y-pipe and slp loud mouth exhaust and it will be very loud and still sound good(thats wat im doing) jd is right about the true dual and it is way to loud inside of the car i spent the weekend in a f-body that had slp long tubes and a h pipe that dumped before the axel and my head still hurts so i changed my mind on that it wasnt the crisp clean sound at idel u get with a cat back system sounded good when he got on it but was to loud inside to drive everyday for me so i would listen to jd all the way on this one

and cut outs are pretty sweet most the time behind the headers its just a short lil tube that has a plate at the end, when u flick a switch it opens up and the exhaust then goes out of that and not threw ur exhast system hence more flow, loud, better performance,etc....most the time has a switch but there are ones that can be screw off to...

Sweet, how much would it cost to get something like that installed? And would I order it online and take it to a shop? or?

*sigh* Splitting the Y goes back to true dual, which we've already gone over, can't be done in a reasonable manner, there simply isn't room under the car to get it all the way back in an efficient manner. If you want something loud, run open headers for 2 days and then come back to us when you want a Y pipe and cat back because you got pulled over 3 times for noise violations and your ears are ringing...

You dont understand obviously... There are more ways to split the Y than what your thinking. Im not an idiot so please do not talk to me like I am one. I just know more about Mustangs than Camaros.. and honestly I gotta give exhaust design to Mustang... reguardless, I am talking bout taking seperete pipes and welding them to each header and welding in a Cross pipe where the Y brought the pipe together.... Ill draw a friggin picture on paint and show you.

Well if you want two pipes the try!!
But there is no room to have the muffler any different way then stock.

No I don't don't think you understand. Your drawing just shows a basic true dual. The problem is getting the pipes over the axel, the panhard bar is in the way on the drivers side. Like I said it can be done, there is a shop by me that does it and it's nice but costs around $1200, it's not worth it. You need to stop thinking Mustangs, Camaros are different. You can try it if you want, but you have had a bunch of people who have experiance with these cars telling you it's not that great of an idea AND there is no power to be gained, so why bother.

Ahh... Fine.. Obviously you dont understand what im saying.. but my paint skills arent that great so whatever. Ill just live with the design.
