ok i just bought a 96 z28. its not in great condition but it has a rebuilt motor with only 10k on it. runs great and i only paid 3000 for it. looking to modify it. at the moment as far as i know it only has a flowmaster exhaust on it. and gutted cats. i want to know the first thing that would be best to do to it. someone told me plug n play would be best for a start. i want to hear other ideas. im used to having a tuner. not a muscle. so im not used to a v8

stay away from shorties, get mid length headers, shorties are no better then stock.

stay away from long tubbed header bc they will drag on the ground. not sure bc I am 1st gen nut I am sure that a 4th gen will pop in here soon

The first thing I would do, like blade said is go for the breathing of the engine. Intake and exhaust.

Dont even worry about sounding foolish. Gutted cats are the wave of the future. Check out the expose in the street/strip section.

I would get a high flow cat with dual pip flowmater exhaust no more then 2 1/2 3 is pushing it but might be needed

on my 89 tpi i put fatter injectors.....for you maybe 26 pounders.....but on a four bar system as yours i would double check...also right off the bat a chip or eprom is nice...this will change the spark curve and timming.new walbro fuel pump, bigger throttle body. new k&n , there are borla systems for exaust, headers, trans kit , adjustable furl pressure regulator and so much more.....later.

yeah its got t tops.

and last night i went the dragstrip and the best i did was 14.6 at 97mph. i raced a 95 z28 that had headers chip 3.73 gears full exhaust and coldair intake. and i beat him by a tenth of a second.i was running 97 in the quarter he ran 95. im happy. i think im going to do some major stuff to this car. i love it thats all i know.
