When the weather is cold out there is a squeek from the rear shocks or something back there...
Anyone else have this problem? I have a 99 Z28 and it bugs the hell out of me, will getting the shocks replaced take away the squeek?
You can get out of the car and push up and down on the rear and hear the noise.
Thanks for any help with this.

yeah i have a 93z and i hear the same thing, i replaced the original shocks with bilstein but i can still hear it when going over speed bumps, i dont think its just in cold though

I have a 1996 Z28 and everytime I go over railroad tracks slow (or any over any bump) I hear that noise. I figured it was just mine.

Are you sure it is the shocks? If you have worn bushings, or poly bushings that need to be lubed, they will squeak.

Hey Pete.
Today it was 70 and I was out cruising with the top down enjoying the weather and there was no squeeking what so ever.
Yesterday it was 30 and snowing and man was it squeeky.
Stupid problem to have but as long as its warm out then it is not a problem.

Well, the bushings can shrink and expand with the weather, but the shocks do that also. May want to shoot a little WD40 on the shock shaft & see if it stops, if it doesn't then it is probably the shock mounts or the suspension bushings. Had a car that would squeak during dry spells and quiet down on rainy days. Turned the rubber bushings were worn and moving about the mounts and making noise. When it rained they would get lubed by the water and stay quiet. Squeaks and rattles are hard to locate, and takes a lot of trial and error to find them.

I got a 95 with the same thing, i think its the rear of the car twisting, probably bushings or shock mounts not shocks

I know this is an older thread, but I have this same prob on my 95 Z.
Yep - when it gets cold (which it has just started to in Louisiana) the rear squeaks and groans big time. When it rains or is humid, I don't hear a peep.
It's gotta be the bushings for sure. I've heard the sway bar bushings are fairly easy to replace, but what about the other ones? How many are there exactly? Is there a kit that includes all the bushings you need for the whole job? Could I replace all of them myself with basic tools?
