SS/RS?????

Hey guys have a question about my ss. It has rs options on it but do not know how to tell if it is truly considered a ss/rs. I have decoded the cowl tag and motor and it is a ss350, but it has the reverse lights are in the lower valance panel. The car was hit in the front end back in the 80's and a 68 grill and turn signals were put on it. Also after I stripped the car I could see at one time it had the holes drilled for the chrome rocker panels. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time.

post  picture's of the trim tag and vin# also the car front rear and under the hood. what year is the car discription is very vague  what do you mean chrome rocker panels? the mouldings?

yeah, the chrome rocker panels threw me off too.  Are you describing the molding/trim along the door, maybe the carpet holder downer thing (yeah I know not much better at describing)

Sorry guys for the confusion. It is a 67 SS camaro. It has the reverse lights in the rear located in the lower valance. The tail lights are solid red. As for the side moldings, when I stripped the car down it had just the solid chrome bar just above the rockers on bottom of the door panel. When I got down to bare metal you could see where at one time it was drilled for the RS flat chrome molding. The car was wrecked in the eighties and in there haste they just slapped on a set of 68 fenders on the front as well as the 68 grille and turn signals. I know this because the car was in the family. I know this car is a SS 350, but I am wondering if it is a RS/SS? Here is the cowl tag       01A                     1238

Ok you have a LOS built car good chance you have a build sheet under the gas tank ! I say this because you have known the cars history. how do you know the history ? why are you so sure it was an ss but dont know if it was an rs? los built cars have been know to produce build sheets found under the gas tanks.A build sheet would not only answer any question you have it would ADD VALUE to the car. Also if this car is an rs ss put the right fender's and grille back on it LoL . do you have the pic's ? need underhood firewall area near brake booster also front and rear.

Am I missing something, because the way this statement is worded, it contradicts itself? Isn't an SS350 still an SS?

Another thing to look at is the engine mount frame bracket. The SS350/Z28 mount has 4 dimples on top.

Usage of the 4P code with the L30/M20 is believed to have started in the late December 1966 / January 1967 timeframe. The very first 1967 Z28's and L78's were also coded 4P; the 4L and 4K codes were then used on the remainder of 1967 Z28 and L78 production. was merely stating that 4p can be found on other then ss model's

Since firehoseman's car was built the first week of January, determining the 4P designation as SS350 or not is teetering on the fence between definite and maybe! I would use the style of engine mounts as the determining factor.

I'm Thinking i would have to look at other things. First off im not disputing that his car is an ss at all merely coversing on the possibilites.I havent seen any pic's of deck stamp for his motor or a vin to match it too. Also havent seen a good pic of the tag or firewall area so I can say ya or na on anything pertaining to fire's car.This is an example of a few thing's id be looking for ....The owner still needs to determine where the speedometer cable comes through the firewall. One more thing to look for is the brake valve on the drivers side of the subframe. Here is a link to what I am talking about: http://www.camaros.org/brake-valve-67CSM.jpg I also have a 67 completely original 350 ss fully documented 37k actual .The documentation also has a recall for motor mount's that keept breaking causing the throttle to stick wide open. I have the recall letter and the fix it pictures as well.My point there is most likely he dont have original mount's.I am still searching for documentation on what you have said about difference in the mount's for an ss no luck so far ?here are a couple of pic's to what i am refering to

and this is what the 4p is refering to "not the motor size"  the 4p was on many different model's from the Lm20(which is also a sought after model) to z28's and also big block car's The 4p designation definetly belong's on desirable car's

INST these the motor mount's you are refering to ? I am confussed on this  are we talking about the mounts that the engine sit on which connect them to the frame? if so those are engine/motor mounts. What i show in the pics is the GM way of fixing a bad motor/engine mount design that repeatidely failed

No, I'm referring to the engine frame bracket that bolts to the frame, and the motor mount bolts to that. In the picture you can see (I hope) the 4 dimples on top, and it's also a lower profile than what was used in the other small block cars. This style was unique to the SS350 & Z/28, at least for 69.
That GM installed mount fix you show is interesting, like what the racers would do to limit travel. At least it's better than wedging a block of wood between the air cleaner and hood!
