My 94 is touchy when trying to put it in reverse.. I think it's just like a buddy of mine that owns a 84 vette with the doug nash 4+3 transmission said, its just an early 90's problem of GM. I think if you let the clutch out a tiny bit rather than pushing it to the floor it tends to help with getting into reverse easier

THe synchros are waring down. That could be caused by a number of reasons such as low fluid or improper shifting or even wrong fluid.

Mine would do the same thing.

But what you can do is shift into 5th then go into reverse. Works everytime and no grinding!

Trere is no syncro in reverse. The grinding is because the clutch is not being completely released. The low fluid will cause this every time.

im havin the same problem. but from what ive looked at there's no where to check the fluid level.

wait so if it does not grind in any other gear but it grinds in reverse its the clutch fluid?

Remember it's the only gear not syncronized so it would show up there first. It may not be low but it may need bleeding ( air in the system ).

Weird because after I changed out my clutch it stopped grinding. Maybe my tranny fluid was low or something.

Could have been low fluid level in the clutch hydraulics. As the clutch wears more fluid rests in the slave cylinder to take up the wear. When you pressed on the clutch pedal there may not have been enough fliud to fully release the clutch. Being that the forward gears are synchronized, the synchros were strong enough to engage the gears without grinding even though the clutch was dragging slightly; however, reverse is not synchronized and the gears would grind. Just a thaught.

z28 pete that makes sense I think that was what was wrong because I my clutch was real heavy before.
