I just bought an 02 z28 and noticed after I got it home that when coasting to a gentile stop if I step on the gas again at about 10-15 mph there is a clunking noise sounds like from the transmission area.  This only happens when the car is in second and when I lightly step on the gas causing it to shift to first.  just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  It is quite subtle so maybe this is normal operation.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I think I know what you're talking about.  It just makes that clunk when you accelerate from stops and at slow speeds, right?  I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is normal.  I only say that because I think the same thing happens to me too.  How many miles are on it?  You might want to get the transmission serviced at a Chevy dealer anyway, might be due for it.  Have them change the fluid and filter.  Should cost around $50-$60 I believe.  I'm looking into getting it done too, about that time.

the exact same thing has been happening to my V6 and i asked one of my friends who knows loads more about cars than i do  and i have also been searching the forums for answers and i have come to the conclusion that it is the transmission mount. so im going to get mine fixed and hopefully that will solve my problems

How hard is it to change the transmission mount, and how can you tell if it is bad?

Raise the transmission up and see if the mount splits. Also look at the torque arm bushing on the tail shaft, and check the U joints on the drive shaft.

Hey people, I just had the car checked by 2 different good reputation shops and they both said this is normal operation for this kind of car.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this same thing.
