Two Problems With My Camaro

Hey all,


I am the proud owner of a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z-28. I've owned her for three years and she's finally decided to act up on me.

I'm a little confused as to what's wrong with her.


Here's the run down. Before I left to go to Japan, myself and my father replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor and ignition coil. The car ran perfectly then.

While I was away, my dad reports that he replaced the vacuum lines throughout the entire engine. Now, the car will not start. It has a very VERY strong turn over and it sounds like it wants to catch. But it just keeps winding.

What might be causing this?

My dad thinks it's the carburetor. But fuel reaches the throttle body with no problem. The only thing that arises suspicion is the fact that the carb spits fuel out of the top of the carb cover, but that may just be because it's flooded.

I don't think it's the carb, but I've been wrong before. I've been searching endlessly trying to find out what will keep an engine from starting. I had a mechanic say check the spark plugs and ignition coil, but if we JUST replaced them, they should work, right?

I think it could also be the EGR valve, maybe it's time to get a new one. Who knows.

But that's my main concern, getting the engine running again.

Problem number 2 is, the headlights and tail lights use to flicker and wouldn't cross over to the brights. Now, they don't turn on at all. Do you think that may be a grounding problem, a problem with the wiring harness itself, or a problem at the switch. This one is an easier fix, but it's an annoyance none the less.

If you all can help me get my car running again, I would be most thankful.

if the car wants to start, if you are turning it over and it races, check the vacum lines, all of them. there should be three on the carb that are critical. if hey are not pluged or conected it will not start but acts like it will. what size and make is you carb??

sounds to me like my 86 malibu when the manifold differential pressure sensor whent bad check that first there cheap and easy to replace

Actually it sounds like it could be the ignition coil my friends car was doing the exact same thing and he needs an ignition coil. I would probly try it that way.
