Default a mystery

i am wondering if anyone can give me any info on a car i have it is vined as a 73 but it has the tail lights of the later models with the wrap around tail lights now i no that ya can change vin and stuff like that is all interchangable pretty well but you dont change tail lights it to much work they usually change front end and have no idea weather to just massacare it ( i have 77 in way better shape but interior is mangled and the 73 is fine inside) but has more rust than a pail full of rust but if it is a wierd model is it worth fixin or...... do i just peice it out

It's definitely not a weird model. I would guess that someone is messing with VIN tags, which is big trouble. Best to either part it out, or sell it. If someone went to the trouble of swapping a complete rear panel and 1/4's the car would be in better shape after all that work. It's pretty easy to cut a couple inches around a VIN plate, and then weld the whole piece in without disturbing the plate. Illegal as heck, but it's been done before.

i have had the car since i was 16 my grandfather owned it and bought it from a dealership in late80 early 90

Did you run the vin # through CarFax or one of those car search websites? I wouldn't like an embarassing situation if I was you. Imagine you were trying to sell it and the person says that the Title has issues and then you lose your sale. Here in CT any Title issue prevents registration and you might as well get a lawyer to assist. I heard there was a website that can track a car from the time it was purchased to the last time it was registered but you have to pay some good money. See if there is any tags with Vin #'s on the door or glove compartment and see if they match.

Even worse; what if it was completely restored and then it couldn't be titled? That would really be sad.

Default still no real progress

i have not run it through any of those sites i have plated the vehicle befvore and had no trouble with the vin that is on it.
also lucky me no vin on glove box the door has been stolen while in storage i have run the vin through vin decoders at camaro .com and they said that it was a 73 camaro made in norwood and had lt package on it and i cant remember they exact car # but it really dont matter so im not sure where to go from here where can i check for other vins on the car
