specter's right about the LS1, but i also beleive the LT1 is a little underrated, but not near what the LS1 was, and the reason they did it was to make the base model vette look that much better. i think they also idd it to play games with the ford people though, which is why i beleave the LT1s are also underrated..

Stroked LT1 FTW!

Okay I give up. The LS1 is vastly superior to the LT1 in every way and the two should never be compared again.

Back to the topic of this thread, which I appologise for straying from, I think that you should put an LS1 in your Nova instead of an LT1 if the small difference in price is not an issue. The LS1, after all, will obviously make the Nova at least one whole second faster in the 1/4 mile

LT1s arent bad either, and can be some beasty cars, and their better for TQ (Stroker FTW!!!) but the LS engine series is better all around, LS1, LS2, LS4(cadallac/yukon/truck engine) LS6 and LS7 are all ****s of engines

oh, and there's also more to it being a second faster, i beleave it has different rear end gears for one, for two, the LS1 car(not just engine) is lighter if im not mistaken, and 3, all the ignition and what not was better/more advanced.

LS1 is by far superior to the LT1 in almost every way. Not only is it lighter but has a huge power difference. The LS1 holds power all the way into its power band and is far more efficient then its older counter part. GM took every thing they had learned from the TPI and LT engines and all they have gained and learned from 50 years of push rod small blocks and decided to step up the game. The LS1 and LS6 are amazing engine way ahead of there time the LT1 is impressive for its time however the LS1 remains impressive even after 10 years and today’s high performance standards. When it comes down to comparing the two the LS1 wins hand down.

What about the LS9
620HP
600torque
LS3 modified block with a blower
whats not to love about that.

is the ls1 really 350 hp? i thought it was 305

Most F-bodys will lay down around 300 HP at the ground stock they where under rated as stated before.

285hp vs 350hp.  i wish I had the stones to call 65 hp little in caps

I know the LS1 is underrated, but I believe the the LT1 is too. Also, most of the difference in hp is due to the LS1's higher redline. But don't get me wrong, I think the LS1 is the lighter, more powerful, just plain BETTER engine of the two!

The redline has little to due with it. Two totally different engines the LS1 makes most of its power way before the redline even hits. It just continues to hold it and doesn’t get winded like some of the older TPI set ups.
