WOW Sick, great explanation! That was one hell of a Advance timing 101. I've never heard of adjusting intial timing that way, but I'm gonna do it that way from now on. So back to my first question is I should hook it up to constant manifold vacuum after adjusting, right?

Constant Vacuum. Use The Vacuum Port At The Front Right Base Corner Of The Carb. Sick

With your cam you should be able to disable the vacuum advance and just work with the mechanical adavance, especially if are using the car mostrly for racing. I know you don't like to use timing lites, but you can use one to see if the vacuum advance is really doing anything. With engine idling, the timing lite connected and aimed at the timing marks, pull the vacuum adavance hose from the distributor and keep it from sucking air. If the timing changes, then the vacuum advance is actually doing something. if not the vacuum advance is just going for the ride. In any case, at WOT the vacuum advance is out of the picture.

Kewl. I Have A Whole Assortment Of Advance Springs I'm Gonna Play With As Soon As Get Some Consistant Runs. By The Way ... Thanks For The Strut Advice. I Bought A Set Of Lakewood 90/10's made A Big Difference. My Stock Struts Were Completely Flat. Sick

You should connect your advance to ported vaccum, this way you will get more advance as you rev the motor. z28PETE sounds like he knows what he's talking. I agree with what he's saying.

Well ... Looks Like I'm Gonna Have To Eat This One. Through My Whole Life Of Working On And Driving Street Vehicles I Have Always Believed That Constant Vacuum On Vacuum Advance Gave You Better Throttle Response. Well Today I Have To Admit I Was Wrong. I Tested My Race Engine Most of The Day And I Have To Confess Ported Vacuum Gives You Better Response Than Constant. I Always Knew That Ported Gave You Better Gas Mileage But, Falsely Believed That An Engine Reacted Faster With The Advance Constant. Through Trial After Trial Constant Vacuum Caused A Hesitation When Stomped From A Dead Stop. To Those I Have Lead Astray My Apologies. I Guess You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks. Sick
