williesrepair -> New experiment this spring (2/10/2008 6:24:30 AM)

This spring I am going to begin experimenting with E85 in my 69 Camaro. Currently I am running a BB454 with electromotive-inc's multi port fuel system with DIS ignition. With this setup I can control all fuel and ignition mapping and many other features. Considering the fact that it has been done regularly and that E85 has a octane rating of 100-105 depending on who's your buying this will be a good fit for me since I need at least 100 now for my car to run. So....93 octane + octane boost usually ends up being 5 bucks or more a gallon when I fill up. Sourcing information has been easy, sourcing factual and correct info will be not as easy but doable. e85.com wiki flextex e85 vehicles e85tips and of course a million more sites to be found. I'm doing this for two reasons. The benifits of cheaper fuel for my Camaro and possibly my Apache which I may also do and also because a large amount members of a different forum I am on concerning hybrids don't considered a flex fuel vehicle as any type of hybrid. Even though it is a "hybrid fuel" or alternative source it doesn't rate with them. I'm all ready disliked I imagine because of my muscle cars and SUV's but oh well. Dad said I could be anything I want when I grow up so I decided to be a *&^hole. ;) If anyone else has gone this path I would appreciate any information your advice you have on the subject. Once the spring thaw comes I'll begin my experimenting and report my results if anyone is interested. I am well aware of the potential pitfalls to my vehicles running E85 in my car. My fuel lines are first on the list to be changed. I need a new tank anyway so a good clean steel tank is to be installed. Fuel filters are easy to come by and then I will look into a different fuel pressure regulator and injectors. I may start experimenting without changing everything, but we will see. I have a few months to research so time is no issue. Summer can't come soon enough, -10 today, 40mph winds and snow on the horizon. Dang it, I spent yesterday sitting in the garage just staring at the toys.
