I am restoring my 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 350. The balancer and timing cover are missing and I'm trying to determine if they originally came with an 8" balancer.

Thanks in advance for your response

I have an 8 inch balancer on my original 1968 SS350 engine.  I have never seen a smaller balancer on a SS engine, but I can't guarantee it didn't happen.  I do know that 1968 on back is different from 1969 and newer engines.

A couple of months back I posted the same question as you, what's the correct harmonic balancer for a 1967 SS/RS 350 (295 HP) and never did get a definitive answer!! I quered the 1st gen. parts suppliers, retailers that deal in Harmonic balancers, restoration forums etc. with few responses and no "absolutley sure" type of post!
I have a numbers matching 67 RS/SS, 350, unfortunatley the Damper is missing..  It would appear from the cam cover timing tab that the original damper was less than 8" in diameter?? I've looked at several 67 Camaros' with 350's not finding an original numbers matching one among them!  Mine is currently wearing a 6 1/4 damper but is not in the car yet. The timing/cam gear cover on mine has a late 1966 date but seems to be off about a month as the car is a Jan.  1967 build? I'm sure someone out their has the answer?   hipirn

I have gone through the same ordeal as you, speaking to balancer manufactures and other experts(?) and have received conflicting information.
Like you said maybe no one knows.
Thanks for your response and good luck.
