As long as you're happy, that's what matters. What fun would it be to drive if you didn't like it? It'd be pretty boring if everyone had the same mods on their car. As for the y-pipe, did it not come with one?

shorties are not just for looks, they just have as much torque associated with them as LT's but they actually produce similar HP.  Im assuming u have all seen the stock manifolds.   anything short of dixie brand bendy straws are better than that.   the damn thing has 6 inches of individual tubing going into a 3" collecter    vs the >1foot tubing into a 4" collecter u get with the shorties, along with the fact they are usually balanced and mandrel bent.   they will still outflow the crap out of the stock manifolds.

on a side note, you DID get a ypipe too right?  ur not going to see much of anything performance wise if ur still trying to cram all that exhaust through the 2.5" catted pipes.   get a 3" highflow cat pipe from TSP or something.   it will cost a couple hundred, but u will be happy

EDIT:

if you want to get real technical, HP is just a function of torque, so my above statement isnt exactly true.   what should be said is that shorties dont scavenge as well at low rpm as compared to LT's.   therefore ur peak torque number which is at low rpm wont be as high.  but at higher rpm when everything is flowing faster the shorties make almost as much engine torque as the LT's but since by this time torque has fallen off and the equation is hp heavy, you see it as hp on a dyno.

this goes with the understanding that a motor does not make any power, but only torque.   hp is a linear calculation from angular measurments
