Hello everyone.

I am new to this site, and have a problem with my rear hatchn on my 87 Iroc Z.
I just got my car out of storage, and when i opened my hatch the motor kicked on and raised it, but now it will not lower it.
The striker latches but will not pull down my hatch.
Is this an electrical problem? Or is it a bad motor?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Scott

i was also wondering if I could put a manual latch in instead of the electric one.

There is a switch on the latch that the striker comes in contact with that may have gone bad. The switch moves with the latch and the wires are small and break.
A manual latch makes the hatch hard to close

check your relay, it should be attatched directly below your latch assembly. It may have gotten moisture inside of it. The same exact thing happened to me and it was just a 10 dollar relay instead of the 150 dollar assembly I bought.

Thanks for all the help.
I put a new motor in and it did the same thing.  The new motor was only $75.
I ended up just unhooking the motor and making it a manual one.

HAH! I found one at a pull a part and it was $5. It pissed the cashier off that there was no other listing fro rear latch when she saw it had electrical and a motor on it so she could not charge me more.
