Ok, so a kid from my school has a claimed 89 iroc z australian race edition. And he's parting it out. Dont know why, but i do know this. I'm looking for a new rear end for my 94. He claims it's a munsie freshly rebuilt, posi,3.73 gears, and disk brakes.. He also claims it's the strongest axle that came in any vette or camaro that year. He's asking 500 for it, and since he wants the back tires off my old rims, i figured i'd offer him 470 total, minus the tires and call it even with 360 cash plus tires. Does this sound like a good deal on my part at all or am i getting ripped off? Thanks guys, and any tips, how many bolts do is a good rear end, good solid diameter of axle tubing, any other things to look for on a rear end. Thanks guys.

I thought that was a borg warner 9 bolt. I think they are stronger than the 10 bolt of that era. Look on ebay for a price ballpark if it is truely all redone $500 is a good deal I would say.

$500 is way too much even for a so called rebuilt BW 9-bolt.  His disscription is also on the iffy side.  I would take a real close look at it for one reason,  The 3:73 gears were not stock in 89 9-bolt and check if it has the PBR brakes (11.655 rotors, note picture).  As I said overpriced but a BW is a very good rear and better then any stock 10-bolt.

When someone tells you it is rare or in your case a special edition & Aussi race edition(none that I know of in 89) be careful.  The only gear ratios for 9-bolt in 89 were 2:77 & 3:27 with Auto (350TPI) & 3:45 with a 5 Sp (305TPI) and all were Limited Slip and 28 spline axle shafts.  If this seller claims the gears were changed ask to pull the cover and check it out.  One thing this guy may have missed is the RPO codes on the console lid, this will tell you what was in the car originally.  Good Luck, but be aware and don't belive everything.

No, my opinion is he just trying to scam someone with the special edition crap.  Also $500  is way overpriced.

yea, he thinks he knows everything, but little does he know i know more then he does. HaHa  last year he told me saw a sti switch to rear wheel drive and do a wheelie in third gear. I just laughed and walked away. Should i go look at it and if it is a rebuilt rear end buy it anyway? Even if he doesnt know wha the ****, a freshly rebuilt rear end is worth 500... isnt it? I'll look at i guess.
