Not level but why?!

CamaroX69 -> Not level but why?! (5/17/2008 9:28:18 PM)

I purchased a 69 camaro with a stock 350 back in '06 and this problem has been gradually getting worse. The car is much lower in the rear on the left side compared to the right rear side. (Id say about 2 inches between tire and quarter on right and about .5 inch overlap on left side) A while back the right front was sitting so low it scrubbed on the fender so I ended up putting some spacers in the coil springs and that fixed the problem for the front. I was told by many people changing out the leaf springs would level out the back, but it didnt and now has gotten so bad the tire will occasionally hit the inside of the quarter panel... Its a noticeable slant looking at it from the back and id really like some suggestions on what could be causing the problem! Thanks!

Normally in the rear I would say its from torque but since its both front and back I say it lived some of its life being parked on the side of a hill. Or maybe a couple of owners back weight in at 400 lbs. I would not bang my head over it to much. The car is going on 40. It was designed to last 7-8 years. Your going to go nuts trying to figure out why stuff happened. Save the "But why's" for the 4 year old car that needs struts and springs. A first gen with saging springs was common 25 years ago.

How long ago did you put new rear leafs on, and did it make any difference at the time? Also, when you did the springs, did you also replace the old worn out upper and lower shackle bushings with new ones?

Did you remove the front springs?  I''ve heard of this type of problem when a front coil spring isn''t clocked properly.  It also could be that one of the leaf springs is de-arching.

What springs did you use?

Sorry I havent responded sooner. I took the advice of the front springs and leafs and checked it all out. the front springs needed replacing so I went ahead and took care of that anyways. The most help came from getting the leaf springs re-arched. She is sittin pretty now, thanks for the advice!
