I have a 95 z28, i have had it for almost three years i have stored it in my garage for two winters. the first winter was a pain to get it started. It would crank and crank and nothing for about two weeks i would try about an hour or two a day and finally it started but it would shake and pufffs of smoke would come out but finally it started and ran well all summer except for when it was damp outside it would act up agian. This spring i got it out and nothing it turns over a couple of times so i put the brand ne w battery on the charger and came back it cranked over but wouldnt start. I went back the next day and eversince then nothing i have no power to nothing its like i pulled the battery right out of it. No power at all anywhere i know its not the battery or the alternator cause they are both new last year and also new sparkplugs, fuel pump where installed last year. I really want to sell it but would prefer it leave in running condition. please help.

THanks joe

do you leave the battery connected all winter?  sometimes your radio can draw the battery completely down and it takes a good jolt on a charger to get it to even start charging

I have a friend who's having the same "described" problem you are. It's her ol' mans car and he mentioned something about reseting the anti theft some how? Not sure but if I can find out more I'll let you know. I would look into that. Just a thunk though?

For winter storage it's best to run the car every couple of months and take it for a short drive to cycle the battery a bit. If you're not starting it at all you should probably get the battery on a battery tender because they cycle the batter between charge and discharge cycles, which is what keeps the battery good. That being said, if the car cranks it's not a bad battery. If the car started, but ran poorly (backfiring, smoking etc.) especially on wet days you may have an Opti that was going bad, and sometime over the winter it actually went bad.

thanks for all the ideas i finally got it goin it required a replacing the battery well getting it replaced under warranty and i also had to reset the anti theft somehow it was not allowing it to turn over. i also found that the starter needed to be taken apart and just put back together. now i have a water loss problem i think its in the head gasket but if anyone has any ideas or advice on startin problems i might be able to help
