probably doesnt have the torque to slap 3rd but would if it could. alot of trannies will kinda over-rev and feel like they shift hard down low. even my elantra does it

if your are stock suspension you would be surprised how easy it is to chirp even good tires. a sudden jolt of torque will lift your axle up, decreasing the weight on those tires significantly. your tranny may or may not be shifting too hard. it sounds alot like just an older car running the way its going to run. it may be due to wear on an old engine, but i wouldnt worry too much about it.

Different gears have different fluid pressures. Maybe that is why it "slaps" into second. Also do you have anything done on your race car there that would affect the lock up converter? A locked converter is making it a direct drive with no slippage and will cause tires to chirp.
