ok I NEED advise here
i just bought my camaro the other day and its time to replace the ****ty oem filter
what do you guys think

oem style k&n
k&n conical filter

full cold air kit

or the one i wanna do
use some black plastic tubing to angle the intake down (where the kits go) with a k&n filter on it
would i really notice a difference between just bolting a conical filter on and putting a tube pointing down on?

To get the full benifits of a CAI you''ll need to be able to get the air out just as well as getting more in.  Even then the CAI will only get you a few extra horses.

My butt dyno registered about 10 hp or so after a full intake reconfiguration... But when I put my headers on, I noticed a very hard spike compared to what I would expect. The air goes in, air goes out... Headers + Intake = Ability to do this much quicker = More ponies!

Since the butt dyno is such a precisely calibrated instrument

Either way, you''re going to be best off going for a full CIA kit. Get one of the big name brands, not one of the cheap pieces of chromed tubing off ebay. Go for K&N or Moroso, you can get them for a pretty good price used and the most you should have to do is clean the filter.

although i have a k&n CAI on my camaro, ive heard stories of the plastic melting in certain areas causing turbelnce, but these stories have only occured under harsh driving conditions.  im happy with my intake though, it looks really nice when i pop the hood and have me about +1 mpg and about 7 horsepower

Put a 12" piece of 2x4 costing about $1 between the butt dyno and the seat, and you will notice a instant 25% power increase. LOL

*gasp*

Pete...have we finally found a power increaser for domestics that is equivalent to the massive amounts of power you get from stickers on ricers?!?
