I''ve got a 91 with a twin turbocharged 355. it had the standard BW T5 in it and...needless to say...a small nuclear bomb seems to have taken out third gear ha. but seriously, im 19, not a clue about anything but i know i wanna keep a manual transmission and the 5 spd is nice. the car has 650 HP and 700ft/lbs right now as it is and my mechanic says after i get some kind of aluminum heads it''ll be pushin 800HP. This is, he wont do anything but tell me an automatic is all thats gonna stand up to it. I''ve been told to get a World Class Tremec T5 by some people but before i go drop 1400 dollars on it, i''d like to know if that tranny will even stand up to it. Like i said, i''d like to keep a 5spd so are there any sure fire options?

well, a automatic tranny would be best. hold up better, and sounds liek you have a strip car. but, you say you want a std.. i don''t know about a 5 speed, but, i beleive(not totally sure) you can fit a T-56 6 speed tranny in there. they''re pretty much indestructable with a nice clutch.

If you can stand having a 6th gear go with a T56.

You guys are way off about the T56, I destroyed mine with 400rwhp, unless he gets an upgraded T56 (about $2500) that idea is out. Look into a TKO600, or better yet a TH400 auto with a 3500 stall. The car will be WAAAYYYY faster with an auto. The World Class T5 was stock in Mustangs and will not be anywhere near what you need. Any route you take is going to $2000 and up.

the t56 is much stronger than the t5, however jd is right.  a tko or other similar tranny will be far stronger than even the t56.
