Okay I''''ve got leather... but the previous owner obviously didnt know you need to condition leather, so it has a tear, and its dry.  I''''ve been using Meguiars Gold Class leather cleaner/conditioner and it kinda helps but not by much.  So first what should I do about that?

Second, its torn.  Now I dont have any intentions of getting it repaired, cause it will cost $150 to replace that piece of leather, and I would rather get a cloth re-upholstery kit from Hawks Third gen, which is only $359.  But I like my leather for now... and I just wanna leave it like it is... so can I be ghetto and just stitch it back up?

And here are some pics:

This is the whole drivers seat, obviously, and it doesnt look TERRIBLE...but its dry and ripped.

Okay heres the tear close up.

I would like to just sew it up... cause I dont wanna spend $150 when I can get ALL new cloth seats for $359.  I mean it''ll be better than just leaving it the way it currently is, right?

Oh well, heres what I got.  Any ideas?

Duct tape. Ha. You could sew it up, but if you sew it up uber tight and the leather is dry and brittle, the thread may just rip through again. Sort of like with my knee after my bike wreck... They loosely stitched it back together, so eventually it would all grow back.

hahahaha its like you read my mind.
A few days after I bought it, I decided to put electrical tape on there, and it didnt look too bad since it was black.
But since it started getting hot, the heat kinda makes the adhesive on the tape just wear off or what not.
Its like 90 degrees here all summer... I mean its not as bad as Phoenix where 115 is normal... but still its hot lol.

That''''s not bad, did you use plain ol black thread? When it comes to stuff like this, I use fishing line. It is clear, strong, and thicker than thread so it doesn''''t rip out. But that looks ok.

You should call it frankenseat

Yup, just found an old sewing kit in my house haha.
And unfortunately, I''m not at all worried about the thread... I''m worried about the seat.  I just hope the leather doesn''t rip under the stress of the thread.
But when I sit in the seat, it doesnt pull that area tightly, so hopefully it should be fine.
I''m really not sure how it ripped though, the previous owners wife must have been fat or something?

Sometimes people stick a screw driver in their back pocket, and forget about it.
