What do you guys think of them? In the sunday comic "Opus", one of the charactors was pissed about an electric car he bought, saying, "I''m American, not French!" And proceeded to smash the car with garden tools.

I think they''re a good move for around town driving, and if you get a small wind turbine, then you can drive the thing almost for free.

Me and my dad we''re actually planning on building one.
Finding an old MR2 or Fiero, gut it out, throw in about 13 car batteries, beef up the suspension and give it to my step mom for her drive to work.

But...thats just an idea, lol.

I asked because I want to build one. They make kits you can get for about 3 grand that have all the electronics and the motor, just add batteries. They even come with an adapter plate to mate it to a manual tranny. I wanted to build an electric older datsun pickup.

Good thing is, when you charge it, you won''t even notice a difference in your electric bill

I really like the Tesla Roadster.  0-60 in under 4 seconds, 220 miles per charge, zero emissions.  Good ol'' electric sports car.

    idk about electric
i think hydrogen is the way to go
ive actually been doing my own research (as much as my brain can handle) on this.
in short people are designing tanks that you add water (just plain water, in some cases it mixes with an electrolyzer.sp?) to
then it splits the hydrogen and oxygen and basically feeds that into your carb mixed with fuel.
and yes all internal combustion engines will run on hydrogen alone.

i know mythbusters did this one and called it busted but if you look at the bulky device they threw together against the smaller more complex ones people are designing i think this could really work. and i think mythbusters lost their credibilty for their experiments after that "subwoofers cant blow out car windows" nonsense where they built their own speaker.

these people claim (im still learning so i claim nothing):
    burns cleaner inside cylinders
    improves mileage roughly %50+/-
    zero emmisions
    +horsepower +torque
and it runs on fxcking water.!!!!!!!!
amazing.  i think everybody needs to look into this.
either to perfect the technology untill it can run a car alone(no gas)
or to expose it as a myth/scam

youtube is riddled with vids of people that have built their own
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=1DwmgYZwFLY
this website http://www.gethydropower.com/index.html seems to be the most professional looking units but the only mention of $ i can find says financing as low as 500$/month.

other people are selling the units for $100 or + it just depends on the site.
i wanna build my own to test the technology before i spend alot of $ on this. thinking of trying it with the S10. or maybe an old beat up motorcycle.

search on youtube theres alot more videos of people doing this in their garages. im sure they have a above average knowledge of electronics and science. but it cant be that hard and ill learn or at least end up buying the boards already wired.
let us know what you find out about electric.
but i think this is more promising mainly because it can easily (once its designed in a user friendly kit) added to any internal combustion engine. ie. the 400 im putting in the camaro or any car for that matter.
oh yeah and it runs on water. the most abundent resource on the planet.

    sorry for the long post

Bad thing with Hydrogen...You have to build Hydrogen Fueling Stations...Or convert Gas stations.
I guess thats a way of stimulating the economy once gas is done.
But for the times right now, I think electric is the way to go, you can do it at home, work, school, etc.

did you read even 1/2 my post.

the hydrogen comes from water, H2O
two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen
these device split the hyrdogen inside your car
so all you pour in is water.

unless you mean turn the gas pumps into water pumps. then charge for water??

Do you want to carry around tanks of water?
And call me a dumbass for thinking this, but if Hydrogen cars run on zero emissions...Won''t we run out of water? lol.

I don''t think water will be a problem in a few years, de-salinization technology is imroving fast. I think gas powered cars need to go, in fact, we need to find alternatives to oil in general. I''m not sure if you guys have heard, but the north pole will be almost gone in september.
