Its no secret that people hate high gas prices... But think of it this way: Alot of the people whining also stop at a chain coffee shop, such as Starbucks, everyday, like clock work. According to Starbucks, the average loyal customer visits 18 times a month, and spends an average of $4.50 per visit. So, take $4.50, times 18, and you get $81 dollars. Now, take yesterday''''s gas prices. The average person fills up once a week. Say you have a 20 gallon tank, and you fill 15 gallons @ 2.50 per gallon. Thats $37.50 to fill up, and 4 weeks in a month = $150 per month. Now, take today''''s gas prices. Use the same variables above, but with the price of gas at $4.00 per gallon. So to fill up, it takes $60 instead of $37.50. In one month, that would cost $240 per month. Thats a $90 increase per month over gas at $2.50. What did we say you would save by not drinking coffee? So, to review, if you stop and take 10 minutes at home before work, and make your own coffee, and it greatly closes the gap of high gas prices. To take it even a step further, cut back on the amount of fast food and other amenities, and you could actually be saving money, even with high gas prices, while being able to drive all you want.

to bad we cant take some time at home and make our own gas. i dont drink coffee but your theory works with cigarettes too. 4.00 a pack = 1 gallon a day but i refuse to change my lifestyle because of gas prices. the most youll get out of me is i drive the truck now more than the camaro in the summer

I still drive all I want and have not givin up anything, in fact both my wife and I took the summer off because of the birth of our son. She gets paid leave and I always have summers off. We try not to eat fast food much or go out to eat, but that is somthing we always do. Sure gas prices are bad but it has not affected me much at all. Hell I am only on my 3 rd tank of gas for the Camaro all summer, I just don''t drive it that much and never really have. Funny thing is that it gets about the same MPG (at times better) tham my 05 Jeep GC.

My idea is mostly for the hybrid driving liberals that complain about gas prices.

Why would hybrid drivers complain about high gas prices when it only costs ~$30 to fill up? I sure as hell know that my parents don''''t complain when they have to put gas in the Prius. Budgeting will definateley help pay for rising gas prices. However, budgeting isn''t the "solution" to higher gas prices.

I wouldn''t call that a solution to high gas prices. Gas prices are not going to come down because all the sudden we stop drinking coffee. If your in a position that gas prices are making you cut back on other small things, you have no freakin business going to Starbucks 18 times a month anyway. Drink a cheaper coffee, make your own at home.
