My son has a 77 that has a 402 BB, he has puled the engine out since he wants to rebuild it.. We are at the stage of removing the Harmonic Balancer and the bolt has been removed from the balancer to the crank and has attached the balancer puller, it has moved about 1/2 an inch but has stopped, what are we doing wrong or are they all hard to come off?

sometimes those balancers can be a real pain. douse it with pb blaster and than use the puller again, make sure your bolts that run through the puller and thread in to the balancer are snug and nothing is getting hung up. especially if the engine was seized it can get real stuck. try the blaster. i swear by it

The pb blaster does work great. I would say also spray that on and maybe even crank the balancer back in and spray more let it soak and then pull it should come off. They are a pain sometimes.

Make sure the puller is seated right at the crank and not bottoming out at the puller; Use impact wrench on puller, should come off no problem.
