Hi, I''m new here. I''m building a 383 stroker motor and I''m wondering if anyone knows what kind of power I''ll be making with a Voodoo flat tappet cam. Specs are:
Lift: .489''''/.504''''
Duration: 268°/276°
RPM Range: 1800-6200

The compression is 9.6:1, Sportsman 2 heads, 750 cfm Holley carb, Performer RPM intake manifold, 2.5" mandrel bent X-pipe exhaust, Flowtech Afterburner mufflers. Going to have 700r4 tranny with about 2400 stall, 3.73 rear end, 28" tires.  I''m hoping to be making about 450 horses, will this make that? Any other suggestions on parts?

Oh, also would I be getting half decent MPGs? I''m only getting about 14 now, I''m hopin to get better than that with this build. I have a TH350 tranny in ther now with 3.08 gears.

If you want fuel mileage you have to plan for it, you can have power and mileage but you are going to lose some power. Or it''s going to cost more.

If you want better mileage, fuel injection of some sort and overdrive transmission.

I''m willing to sacrifice some power for MPGs, I just don''t want to give up TOO much of it. 18-20 mpg would be great if I could get away with it. The tranny will be an OD tranny, 700r4 with a lock-up converter. EFI is a bit out of my range to be honest, though I would have gone for it if I had the extra funds. Like I said, I''m willing to lose a little power to gain some mpg, I can go down a step on a cam if I need to. I''d be more than happy to hear suggestions. Am I at least in the basic direction I should be going in? My second choice cam was the Comp Cams 270H Magnum.

A stroker is a motor that has been given a crankshaft with a longer stroke that it originally had. A 383 stroker is a 350 bored .03 over and has the same stroke as a 400 block. 3.75" as opposed to 3.48 for a 350.

Hmm, I might not have to worry about mpgs if I can get this fuel system to work... Vapor system instead of liquid gas, if I can get it to work I should get enough mpg that I can just make an awesome street motor. Not to mention all the money I would get from selling the system I could buy every year Camaro out there...

Well, you can buy a new bottom end kit from Eagle that comes with all rods pistons, crank, flexplate, balancer, and bearings; or you can get a crank from a 400 Chevy and machine the block to get it in. Jegs sells the eagle kit, it costs $750 for an externally balanced kit, $825 for internal. Depends on what you''re looking for in a motor to really say anything else about advice. As far as mine goes I''m trying for a good street motor that can last as a daily driver, you can go a super street machine if you wat though.
