So Im looking at getting  an upgraded  throttle body  but im not sure what exactly is going to be best. From what ive seen BBK and Holley both make a 52mm tb and a 58mm tb, heres the catch they are both the exact same price and list the same hp/tq gains. Now at first glance im thinking, well the 58mm is obviously gonna provide more airflow, right? Then after i thought about it for a while,  i had the idea that a 52mm tb might give me more lower end torque than a 58mm tb, due to the fact that the air would flow faster. Am i an ultra noob kid who has no idea whats going on or what? Any thought s on the matter?...preferably old guys.

What other mods do you have? Since if you don''t have the mods you are not going to see any gain and it''s a waste of money that could be spent on something that will give you gain.

FAST is by far the best both for TB''s and manifolds. Using a upgraded TB on a stock manifold will not give you any gains except maybe 2 or 3 horses at the very top of the power band. The stock intake and TB flow good on stock and mildly bolted applications.

i wanna say you won''t see much improvement with a bigger throttle body unless you''re putting out over 350 to the wheels.  hell when i do my heads and cam package i won''t even be putting on a bigger throttle body, right away anyway

No we are saying that a throttle body is not going to give you the gain worth purchasing it at this time. Looking at your upgrades it''s time for Cam and/or heads if you want more power. The cam is the brain, it doesn''t matter how big the hole is going into the engine if the valves are not opening enough to use it. Throw a cam and some 1.6 rockers/ lt4 knock sensor custom tune. Then you might think about throttle body, but then you should also check fuel system(fuel pump, injectors) to make sure it''s up to more power first.

Again back to our point, throttle body at this point is not cost/hp efficient. Do you need to rebuild your engine to get more power, no. There are other upgrades you can do before that.

yeah but if i cam it, i might as well rebuild the whole engine right? Keep in mind i dont have an ls1. this baby''s the ol pushrod V8. anyways, i have considered getting the heads ported and polished, ive also considered just buying a set of afr LT4''s. Now the AFR''s are slightly rediculous in price, so do u think having my stock heads ported and polished would be worth it?

Someone will more info should post up I havn''t actually done any of this yet. I know a lot of people will throw 1.6, lt4 cam and lt4 knock sensor in. I am not sure you need to actually port your heads to get any gain. You should try posting over at http://ltxtech.com/forums/ where they know more about this.

I agree with the others, a TB isn''''t really going to get you much right now.
CBR: FAST only makes LSX products.

You can do a head/cam package without rebuilding the whole motor. The LS1 is a pushrod V8 as well. You have a full roller assembly, meaning you don''''t necessarily have to completely rebuild the motor if you want to replace an internal part. If you decide that you want to go for the AFR LT4 heads (never a bad choice) you''''re going to have to get an LT4 intake manifold as well since the intake runners are raised 0.10 inches over the LT1 intake. If you decide that you want to get your stock heads ported/polished you can check out www.totalengineairflow.com and send in your cores. The numbers they get out of stock LT1 cores is amazing. You can also check out www.elliotsportworks.com for a full head/cam package.
