I was wondering, in the year '00 or '01, what's the difference between the Z28 and SS.  Do they have the same power?  What's the real difference.

the SS also has a different intake, yes that ram air actually does something for performance, that's why the #'s are different

Hell yah there is a difference. The Z28 is like Camaro's special Camaro, While SS is chevy's way of saying lets make this thing fast. If your asking which is better alot depends on how you order it. But down to it get an Super Sport

The real difference is the 310hp/340tq in the Z28 versus the 325hp/350tq in the SS. Did i forget to mention the SS looks a hundred times better.

The most notable difference is cosmetic... and a lil more horsepower never hurt nobody!

Sorry to bring back a dead post. There is no real world performance difference, ALL LS1 cars got the LS6 intake in 01. The SS is an apperance package mostly the main difference is the SS got slightly different shocks and springs and a different sway bar. The ram air does not add any power. I have seen dozens of these cars on a dyno and can tell you first hand, Z28's and SS's will all dyno within a few hp of each other. I agree that the SS looks better, thats why I bought one.

you guys are all talking factory hp ratings. 1st the 01' 02' are 350hp cars add another 20-25 for the s.s. for the airbox and exhaust. g.m. had no intensions building the cars past the 2000 model year, but what do you do when you have all these ls-1 motors sitting around for the corvette that they knew a new motor was in developement.(put it in the f-body)all of us lucky bastards with 01-02 f-bodys we have 350hp vette motors with the z-06 emmisons and better intakes then the 98 to 2000 cars.

also all ss and ramair cars started as zcars and trans ams, they were loaded up on haulers and sent down to SLP, 10 miles down the road where they did the changes
1.hoods
2.airbox
3.exhaust
4.detroit locker rearend
5.wheels and tires
6.badges and etc...
all that for around $3500 to $4000 extra

SS cars did not come with detroit locker rear ends, the ram air hood has little to no affect on HP. Like I said it is 99% cosmetic. 15% of 01 and 02 cars got the LS6 block, all 01-02 cars had LS6 intake, no f-bodys had the LS6 heads or cam. The 01-02 LS1's were all pretty much the same, they put down about 330-340 hp at the flywheel. Look I own an 01 SS and really likeit, but I know what it is. Go ask this question on LS1tech.com and see what kind of answers you get.
