V8 is the smartest route...

You can build a V6 or swap a V8 for about the same price

yea, i would go with the ls1 but... i want a carbed engine. so no programming there. suspension... allready done. all i need is v8 springs. complete suspension upgrade allready. Would i need to customize the radiator support to move the engine mounts forward to fit under the cowl?

Height would really restrict you, seeing more than half the engine is under the dash
