Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me.  I have been trying to fix a knocking sound that is coming from somewhere in my front end since i replaced the struts.  It happens when i rock the steering wheel back and forth and also when i hit bumps.  It is kinda loud and sounds like metal on metal.  I have been to 4 different shops and have replaced the upper control arm ball joint, both tie rod ends, the strut twice and have run out of ideas.  Any help would be great!  It is a 94 camaro v6 with the 3.4 if that helps at all.  Thanks for looking!

Check the steering rack mounting, make sure it tight and not moving side to side, and check the sway bar bushings & links. Put car on a lift and have someone move the steering wheel and go under the car &try to pin down where the noise is coming from.

last time i had it on a jack, the sound was comin from the inner tie rod end where it connects to the steering gear.  thats why i replaced that tie rod end and figured it would help but the steering gear was still a little loose so im not sure if that is the problem or not.  ill check the sway bar bushings next.  Thanks for your help!

I have encountered this problem you describe in the past, on others cars. it totally sounds like a bushing problem, not a hard suspension part problem. I totally forget which bushing went bad, but I do remember when I had them turn the wheel (let's say if I was on the passenger side of the car, I had them turn it left and the opposite for the driver's side) I could look behind the tire and see what went bad without even looking at the car

sorry I couldn't help you out more as my memory isn't too good sometimes

another longshot and one that's not easily noticed, and might be easy to do, is if your car has a front swaybar and they had to disconnect it to install your struts. they could have quite possibly installed your swaybar endlinks backwards.
