Not to compete with Z28pete's post. Here are some sites that provide info for common questions from; 'do I have a real ss?' to 'What size and year engine do I have?'.
The below sites do not contain everything you will need to know but it is a good start. If there is something that you still need help with please ask. There is alot of knowledge on this (CF) site.
