My brother in law has a 2000 camaro that has randomly stalled 3 times over the last couple months.  In all cases, the check oil pressure light has come on.  When he checks the gauge the pressure drops to zero right before the car stalls.  This has happened ideling at a stop light as well as while on the freeway.   Any one have any ideas why this would happen ?

First this is the third gen section and a 2000 is a fourth gen.

Has he checked to oil level? what is the pressure as he drives and at what rpm? The oil pressure may just be droping because its stalling. When does it stall? only when the rpms are already low like when stopping? The fuel pump gets power when running through the oil pressure sender. Oil pressure dropping could allow it to stop but stalling obviously drops oil pressure.

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum.

Oil level looks good.  He said the oil pressure is in the middle when ideling (60 I think - not sure) and it goes up a little from there under load. I can get exact numbers later if thats important.  Past 2 times it stalled he was sitting at a stop light, today it stalled when he was slowing down from about 60-40 on the freeway coming up to traffic.

well he should have oil pressure. Maybe the fuel pump is going bad. Does he have an alarm that kills the ignition? Tooo may times I see those go bad and leave people stranded.

He does have an alarm.  Not sure that this is the issue though.  What happens is the oil pressure light comes on, sohe looks at the pressure gauge.  He sees the pressure gauge dropping to zero and all the other gauges appear normal and car is still running.  After a couple seconds the car stalls ( I think the oil pressure sending gauge is cutting the fuel due to the low pressure).  The car always starts right back up and runs normal oil pressure.

Do you think it could be a faulty oil pressure sending unit or the oil pump going bad ?

Well I would go for the sender first because its cheaper to do and easier.
